Wednesday’s Racing Tip: Algernon Pazham the one to beat at Leicester

cheltenham-festival-bookmakers

The Racing Excellence Training Series Conditional Jockeys´ Novices´ Hurdle looks a straight match between Paul Nicholls’ Silsol and the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Algernon Pazham and tipster Lewis Jones is confident the Twiston-Davies’ can get one over the in-form trainer from Ditcheat……

It was hard not to be impressed by the selection on his hurdling debut over the course and distance last month. Being readily put in his place by the potentially exciting Dubai Prince, who was rated 115 on the Flat for Godolphin before joining John Ferguson, is no bad thing, especially as he was only beaten six lengths and jumped with plenty of vigour.

He showed good consistency his in two races in bumpers too, where he finished a close third at Stratford and Huntingdon, showing clear ability to travel through races with plenty of class.

His finishing kick is a little bit of a worry as he hasn’t found as much as perhaps expected in all of his races, but we’re hoping none of his rivals are in his class sphere today.

The Nicholls runner looks his only danger but we feel he may have been flattered by his fourth in a hot maiden at Aintree. Back his market rival at 3/1 with a two point win stake.

Meanwhile, with the Cheltenham Festival always close to our thoughts, tuning into the Hexham Bookmakers “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle at Hexham at 12:50 should be a worthwhile watch as Regal Encore, who is 20/1 for the Supreme Novices Hurdle, continues his development in the novice division.

A betting prospect he is not at 1/8, but punters should be glued to screen to see how he’s coming along with the opening race at the Cheltenham Festival in mind.

Anthony Honeyball’s stable star finished second in the Champion Bumper behind the exciting Willie Mullins inmate Briar Hill and has already appeared twice this term, suffering a surprising odds-on defeat first time out before looking a much better animal on his recent start.

That defeat came at Aintree at the end of October, but losing to Garde La Victoire was no disgrace as that horse has gone onto romp away with a novice race at Warwick in the style of a superstar.

Regal Encore put that defeat behind and jumped slickly when scoring rather cleverly at Plumpton last month. AP McCoy has travelled to Hexham to take the ride today and we should see an electric showing from one of the most exciting horses currently in training.
