Wednesday’s Racing Tip: 9/4 Don Pooleoni to show his worth at Southwell

There was yet more profitable news for Lewis Jones’ followers yesterday as Rose Of The Moon duly delivered the goods at 100/30 at Wetherby to rocket his profit and loss record to +35.26. That means if you had followed all of his tips since this column was introduced in November with £10, you’d be sitting pretty with £350 worth of profit in your back pocket now. His pick comes from Southwell today….

Harry Fry is a young trainer who has a bright future in the game and he can continue his fine start to his 2013/14 season by sending out the well-handicapped Don Pooleoni to victory in the 32Red Handicap Hurdle at Southwell.

Fry is working at an incredible 33% strike rate for the season and his consistency with his hurdlers is admirable, which bodes well for the chances of the selection today.

Don Pooleoni is undoubtedly better than his current mark of 108 but everything has yet to fall right for the nine-year-old this season.

He made his return from an unsuccessful chase career when finishing second behind a decent yardstick in Brinestine from the Paul Nicholls yard in a good race for this kind of grade at Taunton.

That performance stunk of a horse that was ahead of his mark but he failed to build on it on his next two starts at Warwick where he was beat on both occasions despite going off as the market leader.

Fry’s charge weakened tamely over a longer distance when travelling well throughout the race behind Swinging Hawk and punters didn’t get a chance to see him in full flow last time out when unseating young claimer Martin McIntyre at the fourth flight despite jumping the first three with plenty of relish.

This race looks a far weaker contest than the three he has competed in this season and Don Pooleoni and his main market rival Santo Thomas should be there together jumping the last.

In our view, our selection looks a horse with more potential at the weights and that should prove the difference between two.

Get on the 9/4 with a two point win stake.
