Another day; another winner for tipster Lewis Jones, whose three point win recommendation on David Pipe’s young chaser Edmund Kean was bang on the money. This column now boats a +34.14 profit since we launched in November. That means if you followed all of our tips with the recommended stake size with £10, you’d be sitting pretty with £340.14 in your pocket right now. So, where’s the money going today, we hear you cry?
Our faith in Edmund Kean yesterday was well placed as he showed a nice attitude on his chasing debut to impressively win off a mark of 132 at Leicester.
Bigger and better things are set for the David Pipe trained chaser, who caught our eye when running third in the Imperial Cup last season.
Moving on, and our eyes have been drawn to a bigger price runner today at Doncaster with Danandy bringing big each way claims to the table around the 12/1 mark in the Big Casino bonus.co.uk Handicap Chase, run at 2:45 at Doncaster.
Phillip Hobbs rarely makes the trip to a course for one runner but it looks significant that Danandy is his only runner up in Yorkshire today with Tom O’Brien also heading there specifically just to ride the 12/1 chance.
There is a feeling within these parts that the selection hasn’t quite released his true ability as a racehourse as yet. The seven-year-old scooted clear with a decent race at Stratford in October by nine lengths in the style of a horse going places.
A 14lb rise followed and two below-par performances on first look suggest that he’s now in the grip of the handicapper. However, we disagree. On both his two recent starts it wasn’t the weight that restricted his ability to perform but it was out of character sketchy jumping.
Danady fell after a round of poor jumping at Ffos Las but his costly mistake came when he was still very much in the race three fences from home and with a clear run he would have troubled the front two.
He followed that up with a better attitude at his fences at Fontwell in December and was running a huge race (traded at short prices to win) before making a race costing error with two to jump which again gave punters wondering what this horse is really capable of under his revised mark.
Hobbs’ charge is now also potentially well handicapped after a 2lb drop in the weights and 1.5 each way stakes are advised on his chances.
