Nick Shiambouros was out of luck yesterday when his best bet Following Sea was narrowly defeated in the Cigar Mile. Nick returns to Aqueduct with two selections from the quality card…
“The return to seven furlongs will suit, and the talented Eric Cancel has the riding assignment”
Bank Sting to grab the cash
I am going to side with Bank Sting in this fascinating Stakes race on the main track.
This lightly raced filly finished down the field behind Sharp Star in the Empire Distaff at Belmont Park at the end of October. She made her move at the entrance to the straight, but was left behind when the pace lifted. The winner looks useful and time may tell she faced an impossible task. This was her first start since winning the Critical Eye Stakes in the spring and may have needed the run. Trainer John Terranova has a 23% strike rate on horses running second time after a layoff, which is significant. Anything around her Morning Line of 4.03/1 will do.
The Important One will be a very short price. She is bidding for a four-timer but is unproven at the distance. She is the obvious danger, but I can afford to let her win at around even money.
Chowda a tasty price
Chowda could run well at a big price in this intriguing Stakes race on the main track.
This talented gelding finished third to Miles D in a competitive allowance race at Belmont Park in October. He looked the likely winner a furlong from home but ran out of petrol near the finish. The winner took the Grade 3 Discovery over this course last week giving the form a solid boost. The return to seven furlongs will suit, and the talented Eric Cancel has the riding assignment. BSP is recommended.
My Boy Tate appears to be the main danger. He won a Stakes race in great style at Finger Lakes and is a seven time course winner. He is a hard knocking gelding and is a model of consistency.
