Tuesday’s Racing Tips: 100/30 Rose Of The Moon can eclipse rivals under McCoy

Tipster Lewis Jones was oh so close to nailing a 20/1 double for his followers yesterday but The Lock Master finished second after 5/1 Ace Master had earlier landed a race in fine style at Southwell. He turns his attention back to the National Hunt game today as a horse at Wetherby with the champ AP McCoy on board has caught his eye….

Middleham Park Racing have always been very open regarding the high regard that they hold their nine-year-old chaser Rose Of The Moon in, but, as yet, that talent has only blossomed sporadically as the horse has encountered a few problems with fitness.

Now trained by David O’Meara, after previously being housed at Pond House by David Pipe, Rose Of The Moon is very lightly raced for a horse of his age over fences and looks on a very workable mark in the Star Sports Cheltenham Preview – 3rd March Interactive Handicap Chase, run at Wetherby at 1:55.

Although he is riddled with inconsistency, it’s clear to see that the selection is one to punt in the winter months rather than when he heads to the spring festivals.

A high proportion of his poor runs have come when tasked with performing at the Cheltenham Festival (pulled up National Hunt Chase & eight in the Martin Pipe Conditional) but on heavy winter ground he is a horse that can throw in a spectacular performance or two.

For a National Hunt performer that has only run 15 times under rules, it is very eye-catching that he has won four races, including two chases and all have come on ground softer than good.

O’Meara’s charge does come into this very winnable handicap at Wetherby on the back of a lacklustre performance at Aintree in the Becher Chase, which is run over the Grand National fences.

However, it’s easy to forgive a horse a bad run at Aintree and switched back to regular fences at Wetherby, he should be able to get back into a good rhythm.

The handicapper has given his connections a big chance of landing a pot by dropping him 3lbs in the weights and with McCoy booked at a track where Rose Of The Moon won a novice chase by 21 lengths in 2012, he looks best bet material at a juicy 100/30.

Get on with a three point win stake.
