Tuesday’s Racing Tip: Midnight Request to shine at Taunton

Action is thin on the ground today with only Taunton surviving a course inspection. The ground will be on the testing side (when isn’t it?) and Lewis Jones thinks he has found a solid 11/4 shot to follow…

It seems as though Midnight Request has found his level as a low grade handicapper after running in some strong maiden hurdle races and he will take all the beating Taunton today.

The five-year-old showed some ability when beaten in three novice hurdles and has the capabilities to rate much better than his current mark of 88 in the long-term, starting today in the Aid Training Handicap Hurdle where the 11/4 should be snapped up.

The selection put a very disappointing showing behind him at Uttoxeter in a novice hurdle handicap with a much stronger staying performance last time out at Leicester.

Although he was beaten five lengths by Kayf Moss, that horse looks streets ahead of the handicapper judging by his running behind Cheltenham Festival player Deputy Dan and the overall form of that event at Leicester looks well worth keeping on the right side of.

Midnight Request fluffed the last that day too and it’s a fair assessment to claim that he would have finished much closer to the winner if not encountering difficulties at the final flight.

He pulled miles clear of the horses in behind, who should go onto frank the form, and with conditions set to be similar at Taunton today he’s worth following off the same mark.

Despite the 13 runners, rivals look thin on the ground with nearly all the field lacking the scope of the selection. The best of the rest looks to the rapidly improving eight-year-old Come One Annie, who won nicely at Uttoxeter on New Year’s Eve.

However, although looking progressive on paper, the form of that race isn’t up to much and the 5lbs rise in the weights should end her upward curve of progression.

Midnight Request brings far more strength to the table from a punting point of view and the 11/4 should be backed with a two point win stake.
