Lewis Jones has switched his attention back to the Flat today after finding some 10/1 each-way value yesterday. However, he’s only advising small stakes on this one on a day of pretty mediocre betting opportunities…
Thankfully we sneaked a bit of profit yesterday as Dippidy Do Dah got up close home for third at Newton Abbot, therefore landing the each-way part of our bet at 10/1.
Today’s cards, a bit like yesterday in fact, are hard to get too excited about and my real focus is now on preparing for Royal Ascot which starts next Tuesday.
It will be minimum stakes advised today but those looking for a bit of each-way value may want to chance the arm of Crystal Nymph in the EBF Stallions Breeding Winners Margadale Fillies´ Handicap at Salisbury (3:55).
Jockey Richard Hughes may not be enjoying the successful heights he hit last season but Richard Hannon’s stable jockey has still been firing in the winners on a regular basis and no one rides tight tracks like Salisbury better than the current champion jockey.
He has an incredible 25% strike rate at the track over the last five years and that percentage may rise further after his ride aboard the selection today.
Crystal Nymph landed her last start over today’s course and distance in gutsy fashion and may not be too inconvenienced by a 5lb rise in the weights. Hannon’s three-year-old was thought to be in the grip of the handicapper by her trainer before her last outing but she showed a nice attitude to break her maiden at the sixth time of asking. It was a typical Hughes ride that got the job done too.
Stalking his rivals from the back with three to run, Hughes went for his whip last and the filly showed a nice turn of foot to pull clear of a progressive field and out battle Melrose Abbey, who is entered up in a Listed race at Newbury on Thursday, which gives you an idea of how well regarded she is by her trainer Ralph Beckett.
Today’s race is arguably a little deeper in terms of quality than her last effort but apart from the potentially classy Seagull at the head of the betting, there’s noting that should scare Crystal Nymph backers too much.
Get on with a one point each-way stake size at 8/1.
