Tom Scudamore: ‘Brinkley my best chance on Coral Welsh Grand National Day at Chepstow’

Coral ambassador Tom Scudamore gives us the lowdown on his rides at Chepstow on Monday

12.30 – Buck’s Boggle

Buck’s Boggle has some good bumper form from last year, finishing third and second in races which I rode him.

He has schooled nicely at the start of this season too and this looks a great place for him to start over hurdles. I’m confident he can be a very promising horse, hopefully starting with a big run here.

1.05 – Duc De Beauchene

Duc De Beauchene is a course winner, I was on board when he won here at Chepstow in March of this year.

He will appreciate any rain that does come, the more the better in that regard, but we are at the right end of the handicap and hopefully should run well.

2.10 – Kateson

He ran his usual solid race last time out when just finishing outside of the first two places late on at Aintree around three weeks ago and he runs over three miles here which I think will really help him.

It will be the first time he has run over this trip in over a year, with his two runs so far this season both over 2m 4f and both at Aintree.

That step up in trip should provide some extra help to him and the conditions are in his favour too.

We also know  he loves it at Chepstow, winning twice and placing second once in three runs at the track. Everything should be set up for him to run a big race.

2.50 – Ramses De Teillee

Ramses ran in this race last year, finishing 12th, and he is a horse we know all about now he is aged 9.

The Coral Welsh National is always a hugely competitive race and that is no different this time around again.

His two runs so far this season have shown he has the ability to go close in a race like this.

I thought he ran well at Haydock last time out. He finished fourth that day but and was not beaten by that far, only four lengths.

Native River running in the race has also meant that we have a lovely racing weight to carry here of 10-6. We are well handicapped and that is a big boost. I am really hoping for a big run here.

3.25 – Brinkley

Brinkley looks my best chance of the day, a horse that has taken to chasing so well and was victorious in a very competitive Novices’ Chase this season already at Huntingdon.

I was actually surprised that he won that day as we felt everything was going to be against him and Chepstow will be much more to his liking, the ground and course, so he should take a fair bit of beating.

3.55 – Thanksforthehelp

Thanksforthehelp has schooled nicely at home and although he was beaten by far enough at Southwell, I don’t think it was as bad a run as it might look.

Obviously we know he will have to improve on that here but I think he has all the potential too and that he can be a nice horse going forwards.
