Saturday Racing Tips: Follow Walkon and Sire De Grugy for profit

sandownWe asked Lewis Jones: gives us two bets to attack for the televised Channel 4 action today. He threw us a 16/1 and 2/1 shot….

If there’s one horse in training that deserves a big prize it’s Walkon. Second in a Paddy Power Gold Cup, another valuable Cheltenham handicap and the Topham Chase, Alan King’s charge gets top marks for consistency but has yet to reward his connections with a juicy pot of gold. If there’s any justice, he’ll hopefully get that little extra bit of luck today and we’re hopeful of a big run in the Betfred Becher Handicap Chase in Aintree’s 2:05.

the handicapper hasn’t missed any of his top-class handicap performances and he has steadily gone up through the weights, the step up in trip and his ability to handle the Aintree fences makes him an eye-catching prospect at 14/1 in what is a very tough handicap to find the winner.

That aforementioned second at Aintree last season has been given a boost by Triolo D’Alene winning the Hennessy Gold Cup last weekend and the front two pulled easily clear on that sunny day in Liverpool last season.

There are at least five or six real dangers to the selection, with On His Own an undoubtedly very well handicapped horse and Across The Bay hailing from a yard at Donald McCain that always should be respected over the Aintree fences, however, at the prices Walkon is the each way value call.

One point stake each-way should be the play.

The Tingle Creek Chase is the feature race on televised card from both Aintree and Sandown, and although Sprinter Sacre misses out, it has opened the race up from a betting perspective.

Sire De Grugy was always going to be the main challenger to Nicky Henderson’s electric chaser if he was spot on; therefore there seems no reason to swerve the favourite who has been very well backed this morning at 2/1.

Gary Moore’s string are in flying form at present after a double at the track on Friday, including winning the feature staying chase over three miles with the quirky yet talented Vino Griego.

Moore has been very happy with the way their stable star has bounced back after a somewhat disappointing effort when beaten by Kid Cassidy at Cheltenham. If he returns to the form he showed when he won at Sandown at the back end of last season, he’ll be tough to stop and go at him with a 4pt win.
