Thursday’s Racing Tips: Telescope to reverse form with Noble Mission at Chester

Lewis Jones has struggled to find many angles today on a furiously competitive Chester card but is pushing the chips all in on a horse that should have improved massively for his latest effort…

Today is the day to steam right into Telescope in the Betfair Price Rush Huxley Stakes.

Although unlikely to hit the heights that many predicted him to reach, Sir Michael Stoute’s classy four-year-old is an animal to take very seriously at this level and at this trip.

Yes, he was smashed up by Noble Mission last time out at Sandown but today’s clash will be different for many reasons.

Firstly, the ground will be more in favour of Telescope as it was bordering on heavy at Sandown and I will be shocked if Ryan Moore’s mount doesn’t improve tenfold – like many of Stoute’s top-class animals do – for that run.

Additionally, Noble Mission has to carry a 3lb penalty for that win and isn’t a horse to be trusted at short prices, especially as he’ll have problems leading here with the inclusion of the pacey Highland Knight.

Ektihaam is an overrated horse in my eyes on what he has achieved in his career thus far and you’d have to be brave to back him first time out when trainer Roger Varian’s string notoriously come on for the run. Get on Telescope at with four point win stakes.

There aren’t many other betting opportunities I’ve found on a very competitive card for Ladies Day, especially when the rain has been steadily falling around Chester over the last 12 hours.

The feature race of the day is the Chester Vase, which does have a habit of producing very good clues for the Derby and future Group Ones.

Ruler Of The World took this before landing the showpiece at Epsom and subsequent Eclipse winner Nathaniel chased home Treasure Beach (finished second in the Derby) a couple of years  back.

Today’s feature revolves around the two Aidan O’Brien runners and I would be stunned if any of the British brigade are classy enough to dethrone them. Trying to predict which one is the stable first string impossible to fathom without being around the stable so I’ll be sitting the race out from a betting point of view but Carlo Bugatti and Orchestra are certainly the two to concentrate on.
