Lewis Jones is attending the Craven Meeting this week and has sent over his thoughts on the day’s action. A big one could be on the cards too as he has three bets for punters to attack from flat racing’s HQ……
Things start to get serious today on the Rowley Mile. Yesterday was a slow punting day but today the fireworks are set to fly as I’ve found three bets to get on from Newmarket.
I don’t usually recommend backing multiples, but I’m making an exception today as the three selections are just too tasty to ignore from an each-way Trixie (four bets; three doubles and a treble) point of view.
While the feature race of the day will draw a big crowd as Toormore and Be Ready clash in the Craven Stakes at 16:05, the best bet of the day lies elsewhere on a spicy punting card.
Hamza fits the bill as the most likely winner of the Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes (15:30) and the 4/1 on offer is like Christmas come early.
This six furlong dash on quick ground is made for the speedball, who developed into one of the most consistent and electric sprinters around last time. This is historically a race which suits front runners and the selection, who is 2-2 at the course, can pour it on from the outset.
Trainer Roger Varian is on a fact finding mission with favourite Aljamaaheer by dropping him back from a mile he’s unlikely to be seen at his best here in this type of small field tactical event which will be dominated by Hamza from the gates.
Along with the patent, get on the selection with four point win stakes.
Much like Aljamaaheer, Johaan Strauss is a weak favourite in the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy (14:55), and can be taken on with the Richard Hannon-trained Shafra at 14/1 with each-way money.
The selection has race fitness on his side after breaking his maiden at Lingfield in March and has some interesting form that makes him a big player from his two-year-old season.
The final part of the each-way patent is Mull Of Killough in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Earl of Sefton Stakes (16:40). Despite being eight-years-old this course specialist still has the gears to compete at this level and looks a cracker each-way play around the 11/2 mark.
1pt each-way Trixie (8 bets): Hamza 4/1 (15:30), Shafra 14/1 (14:55) & Mull Of Killough 11/2 (16:40)
4pts win: Hamza 4/1 (15:30)
Profit and Loss Record Staked: 106pts Returned: 194.46pts P/L: +88.46pts (Ante Post Bets: 1pt EW on Berkshire in 2000 Guineas)
