Thursday’s Racing Tip: Tansfeeq can make Hanagan’s Ffos Las trip worthwhile

Something was clearly amiss with Lewis Jones’ tip Henry The Aviator yesterday at Leicester as he was market drifted before finishing tailed off. These things can happen but luckily only small stakes were advised. We move on, and Lewis has a selection to concentrate on from Ffos Las….

Paul Hanagan has come a long way in a short space of time. After rising from the level of workmanlike jockey to a world-class one after winning back-to-back Champion Jockey titles in 2010 and 2011, his career has hit further heights since being recruited as Hamdan Al Maktoum retained rider.

This year has been the tip of the ice burg, winning the Oaks and King George with the magnificent Tagroodha and Coral Eclipse with Mukadraham at Sandown under a memorable ride.

He’s riding with a huge amount of confidence and we’re very much of the opinion he’ll make his rare trip to Ffos Las worthwhile today.

Hanagan doesn’t often make the journey to the Welsh border but when he does, he usually heads there with strong chances for his powerful connections, racking up a 45-per-cent strike rate as a whole and he’s 2-2 when teaming up with Al Maktoum.

Our eyes are firmly fixed on the chances of Tansfeeq in the Walters Land Rogerstone Nursery Handicap (2.00), where Hanagan takes the ride.

His debut run is one that was littered with potential and it’s been a surprise to see him not build on that. He finished third behind Portamento (now rated 96) and Estidhkaar (now rated 113 after winning a Group 2 last time) and showed plenty of ability in doing so.

His next two starts have been majorly disappointing considering that his debut showing but what we have learned is that he has plenty of pace. Last time out at Salisbury was a case in example, where he blitzed his rivals from the gates but couldn’t quite repel the market leaders in the final 100 yards over six furlongs.

That’s why the drop back to five furlongs, after racing at six and seven, looks a move that should work the oracle.

A mark of 73 doesn’t should be well within his grasp, especially against a bunch of pretty ordinary bunch of two-year-olds. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get his head in front here and would advise punters to take the 2/1 available with a two point win stake.
