Thursday’s Racing Tip: Bally Sands an each-way option at Warwick

Not much has tickled Lewis Jones’ pickle this morning and he is advising just small each way stakes on a runner at Warwick whilst looking ahead to the weekend….

Bally Sands may not be top of everyone’s punting list today at Warwick but he’s worth a small each way play in a very open looking Handicap Chase at 1:50.

Robin Matthew’s charge put in an improved showing at Huntingdon last time out finishing a gutsy third after doing a lot of the work up front. In fact, that was his best showing since winning a handicap over the course and distance in March, where he was also 4lbs higher in the handicap.

Don’t go mad though, just small stakes please. One point each way will do.

Looking ahead, excitement is growing within these parts, and around the country, for this weekend’s Festival trials day at Cheltenham.

Many of the horses that run on Festival Trials Day are having their final preparation before The Festival and it is rare that this meeting does not feature at least one subsequent Festival winner, see Sprinter Sacre and At Fishers Cross last season.

All eyes are on the Cleeve Hurdle this year as the four time World Hurdle winner Big Buck’s makes his return to action after over a year off with a tendon injury. Despite the absence, he still leads the ante post markets for the stayers hurdle at the Festival and all punters will be glued to their screens on Saturday to see if the beast still has the same engine.

Paul Nicholls’ superstar is trading at 8/11 for the Cleeve and it’s a price that is easing up by the hour with the level of opposition he has to take on.

Reve De Sivola, At Fishers Cross and Boston Bob all look likely to have a crack at Big Buck’s, who will be ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies after Daryl Jacob lost the ride due to his trepidation regarding the uproar and subsequent critique if he was beaten.

There is also a decent field set to line up in the £100,000 Grade Two Argento Chase, which often provides valuable pointers towards the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Rocky Creek heads the betting at 5/2 with Houblon Des Obeaux and Theatre Guide snapping at his heels. Roll on Saturday.

Profit and Loss Record Staked: 194pts Returned: 229.26pts P/L: +35.26pts
