Sunday’s Racing Tip: Hamza to hit the frame in Ireland

No joy for Lewis Jones yesterday as True Story fluffed is lines at Newbury. He’s moved his attentions to Ireland today where he’s found a horse that rates as great value to finish in the first three….

True Story looked a real monkey yesterday under Kieran Fallon and is probably not going to fulfil his potential due to his quirky attitude. Amralah nicked the race from the front.

The winner made most in Listed company at Newbury 21 days earlier and looked to have a lot more on his plate in this. However, he produced a run of his life to keep the closers at bay inside the final furlong and his proven stamina proved a decent asset.

Moving onto today and Hamza looks a great each-way punt in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh (4:35). This game front runner is at his best in short fields over six furlongs and should get things his own way from the front as long as the going doesn’t change too drastically.

The 7/1 available looks very generous as only eight runners go, so the first three will get paid. Maarek may not get his ideal conditions and is always a lay in short fields whilst Rocky Creek needs a strong pace to run at and his mark flatters his ability. Get on Hamza with three point each-way stakes. I would be very surprised if we don’t get a return of some sorts on this one.

Meanwhile, Anthem Alexander faces her toughest challenge to date today in Ireland at Group One level as the impressive Queen Mary winner steps into Group 1 company and takes on the boys in the Phoenix Stakes at 4:05.

Jockey Pat Smullen is a jockey that doesn’t go too overboard with his comments on his mounts but this is interesting: “I have only sat on her once since Ascot and that was ten days ago but she seemed very well and in good form. She has done nothing but improve since her first run and I could not be more pleased with her and providing the ground doesn’t get too soft she will have a great chance.”

The Curragh ground was yesterday good to yielding after 7mm of rain on Friday afternoon. A drying day did not alter that going, but there is a threat of some heavy showers at lunchtime, so anyone looking to follow the filly at 7/4 should certainly keep one eye on the weather.
