Sunday’s Racing Tip: Gwladys is right up our Street at Bangor

cheltenhamfreebetsIt’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Christmas is coming, as is the King George. But what really gets my heart pounding at this time in the calendar that horses are racing on proper winter National Hunt ground.

The recent wet weather has endured turf is bordering on the heavy side of the going stick and it makes finding horses that little bit easier as the ability to handle the surface can eliminate can eliminate plenty of horses from your shortlist.

selections with stamina in abundance and a liking for war of attrition like races will be a key theory for anyone punting at a rain-sodden Bangor today.

Gwladys Street is our first of two tips for the day as he goes in the Eighth Decade Handicap Chase, run at 1:10 at Bangor.

Although this will be just his third attempt at the chasing game, his recent form added to his previous ability to win in testing conditions over hurdles makes him a very big runner today.

His last effort, where he stayed on into second over the course and distance behind a good yardstick in Castle Conflict, was a real gritty effort and bodes well for his chances of running all the way to the line today. Furthermore, he won twice over hurdles at Sedgefield earlier this year, so has shown that he knows where the winning post is.

Wayward Glance has obvious claims under a 7lb penalty after sauntering clear in the mud at Carlisle. However, following a horse that has had to run two three mile chases in a week on very testing ground doesn’t strike us as a wise investment. On form, he’s the one to beat but at short prices we’re keen to bet against him on fitness grounds. Get on the selection with a one point win.

Small each way stakes are also advised on The Last Bridge in the Fourseasons Marquee Hire Handicap Hurdle (The Sunday £5k Bonus Race). Sue Johnson’s horse looks hugely overpriced on what he achieved towards the back end of last season, winning over hurdles and fences before finishing another good second at Chepstow over the timber. His comeback run was too bad too be true, finishing nearly tailed off despite going off a well backed 9/4 shot at Ffos Las.

He still looks a horse that should rate better than his current mark of 78 over hurdles and confidence is high that he can go close today. One point each way stake advised.
