Strictly Silver is a very interesting proposition in the 4:00. Alan Bailey’s charge hasn’t won since landing a decent handicap at Newmarket in the summer and he’s always been a horse that had threatened to turn into a smart performer, especially on the all-weather.
Things haven’t clicked as yet with two pretty mundane runs under his belt at Lingfield but on his current mark he’s a big threat in a pretty medicine race today. Take the 5/1 with a three pony win stake.
Meanwhile, the Cheltenham Gold Cup markets were given a shake up yesterday when the top-class novice from 2012 Last Instalment ran out a very impressive winner of the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown.
Formerly thought of as a potential Gold Cup horse back in 2012 when he sauntered through his novice chase career unbeaten, injury restricted the strapping nine-year-old from the racecourse but trainer Phillip Fenton never gave up hope of getting him back to the top-level.
He made his much anticipated comeback earlier this year but on that run he’d have to improve plenty to be involved with the market principles in the Grade One. But improve he did.
Taking it up three from home, his jumping was magnificent and he kept finding for pressure to see off Tidal Bay and First Lieutenant by a whopping eight lengths.
It was a performance that sent shock waves around the markets for Cheltenham as he was cut from 50/1 to 11/1 for the Gold Cup in a market that is headed by last years winner Bobs Worth.
However, you’ll be a brave man to take a price that short as horses at that age who have had serious injuries are likely to bounce and it’s doubtful whether Fenton will be able to get his charge to Cheltenham in one piece.
The ante post bet at this stage remains Harry Topper.
