It was a good day for Nicky Henderson as the talented Shishkin won the Grade One Clarence Hall Chase at Ascot on Saturday in fine style under jockey Nico de Boinville.
Energumene made most of the running but was denied by a length after Shishkin’s turn of foot got the better of him on the run towards the finishing line.
Last year’s Arkle winner is now 4/6 from 11/10 to win the Champion Chase at Cheltenham with the Willie Mullins trained Energumene 2/1 second favourite.
The Nicky Henderson trained Jonbon won the Grade Two Supreme Trial Hurdle at Haydock justifying his short odds of 2/5 in the betting. He remains unchanged at 3/1 to land the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival this March.
Minella Drama won the opening race on the Haydock card, the Grade Two Novices’ Chase for trainer Donald McCain and is 25/1 from 50/1 for the Turner Novices’ Chase.
4/7 favourite Tommy’s Oscar won the Grade Two Champion Hurdle Trial Race with his chances cut into 33/1 from 50/1 for Champion Hurdle at Prestbury Park. Thirty-five minutes later Royale Pagaille won the Grade Two Handicap Chase for trainer Venetia Williams resulting in his Gold Cup chances trimmed into 20/1 from 33/1.
At Ascot, Doctor Parnassus won the opener by a comfortable margin of ten lengths with his Triumph Hurdle chances introduced at 20/1.
On the same card, Unexpected Party won the Handicap Hurdle resulting in his Coral Cup odds introduced at 14/1 while Molly Ollys Wishes is now 14/1 from 20/1 for the Mares Hurdle. Aint That A Shame is 16/1 from 22/1 for the Kim Muir and Phoenix Way is 16/1 from 25/1 for the Ultima Handicap Chase.
