Saturday’s Racing Tips: Here Comes When a massive price at Haydock

Lewis Jones has two each-way selections on the menu today and is hoping to take you lot to profitsville….

Although Pricewise has tipped up Here Comes When this morning, it hasn’t put me off recommending the Andrew Balding-trained four-year-old for the TIMEFORM JURY STAKES (Registered as The John of Gaunt Stakes) at Haydock (2:40).

Balding has always held the horse in the highest regard and has been very patient in bringing him back to the boil as seen when he romped clear off a mark of 95 at Chester on his reappearance.

The handicapper has forced Balding’s hand slightly by bumping him up to a mark of 106, which ruled out a possible tilt at a Royal Ascot handicap and now opened up the door for a Group race.

He will need to improve again to make a play for the prize today but watching the ease at which he strode clear at Chester, it might not take much more of an effort to get involved with the market principles.

The ground in his favour and with the nine runners scheduled to go to post, the each-way punting possibilities are very fruitful around the 6/1 mark. Market leaders Garswood, who was smashed up at Sandown last time out, and Eton Forever, both have questions to answer at this level while Here Comes When has a progressive profile to go with his talented make-up.

Get on the selection with two points each-way stakes.

Another horse that is being pitched into the Patern company for the first time today is recent handicap winner Clever Cookie, who was mighty impressive when winning a valuable handicap at York’s Dante meeting. This dual code performer was being talked up as a Ebor horse by his trained Peter Niven but he’s decided against waiting for later in the season and to strike when the iron is hot.

There has been plenty of money around this morning for the horse, who looks the one to beat but can be backed a pretty tasty 9/2 on ground that should suit. His main market rival First Mohican is a talented rival but has yet to really show consistency in his game for Alan King. He is a weak favourite and the each-way money should be piling down on Clever Cookie.

Get on with two point each-way stakes.
