Saturday’s Racing Tips: 5/1 Golden can take the bookies to Town at Newmarket

Tipster Lewis Jones is attending both meetings this weekend from Newmarket and has fired over his selections for what is shaping up to be fantastic 2000 Guineas day. He has put forward three tips for today’s action and all are trading at juicy each-way prices…

They say the best things come to those that wait and that may ring true by backing Golden Town in the lucky last at Newamarket (Qipco Supports Racing Welfare Handicap 5:35).

This is a horse that had all the credentials to be competitive in all the big races over a mile this season and it excites me greatly that we can back him here in a handicap at 7/1 with Paddy Power off a mark of 97.

The Godolphin-owned colt landed a very hot maiden last season in super impressive style before running creditably in the Greenham behind Kingman. Unfortunately the horse has a tendency to wander around when under pressure and that has restricted his rise so far. But dropped back into a handicap, he should have enough class to get him through even if he is prone greenness. Get on the 7/1 with four points each-way stakes.

Obviously, the QIPCO 2000 Guineas is the feature today and although Kingman rates as the most likely winner, there’s no value left in him at 6/4. A better punt lies with the chances of Justineo in the Palace House Stakes. The five furlongs at Newmarket favours front runners and Roger Varian’s charge is good enough to hold the likes of Sole Power and Pearl Secret at bay.

Take the 11/1 odds on offer with Paddy Power as they are refunding stakes in that race if your horse finishes second or third. Three point win stakes there.

The action kicks off today on the Rowley Mile with the Qatar Racing Suffolk Stakes at 2:05 and my attention has been drawn to the chances of the David O’Meara-trained Stand My Guard. O’Meara’s string are running with real venom at the moment, firing in five winners from his last 11 runners.

The selection ran a corker in the Spring Mile behind Brae Hill and the form has been significantly franked since. The 5lbs rise shouldn’t be enough to stop a horse who has been rated 106 just this time last year. He’s got great each-way claims (2pts) at 12/1 with Paddy Power, who are the only firm paying five places.
