Saturday’s Racing Tip: 33/1 Lily Rules to shock at Sandown

I can smell an upset in the THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS´ ASSOCIATION ATALANTA STAKES at Sandown, where Lily Rules looks a very interesting proposition at 33/1 for trainer Tony Coyle.

These fillies races are usually rife for an upset with the ladies likely to throw in a bad run here or there. Us blokes know it only too well the mood swings women can go through.

Market leader Fintry from the Andre Fabre yard looks a powerful beast and deserves to be favourite on what she has achieved in France. But she does have to carry a penalty here for a Group Two victory and there’s always a risk with French fillies transferring their form from France to England.

This year’s renewal can go the way of LILY RULES, who was last seen running very flat when well fancied for a Listed race at Newcastle. She was clearly not in love with the quick ground when finishing a near last as Ralph Beckett’s Regardez ran away with things from the front. Coyle was quick to blame the ground for that disappointing showing and I’m convinced she is better than that. A switch back to a soft surface at a track which should suit her stamina pedigree may just bring out further improvement.

She was never good enough to play a part in the finish in the Oaks but her run to finish a staying on ninth in what should turn out to be a hot race makes her chances of winning this event very promising.

Before her run in the Oaks she stepped up markedly for a step up in trip when chasing home Madame Chaing in the Musidora Stakes at York. She showed a very game attitude that day and trainer Coyle has always held this filly in high regard over these kind of distances.

Nicking a bit of black type is well within this filly’s capabilities and I’m pretty confident she will be there or thereabouts when the race enters the business end. Get on her chances with three point each way stakes.
