Oaks preview & tip: Marsh Daisy can upset the big guns in Epsom Classic

Lewis Jones looks ahead to the Epsom Oaks tomorrow and assesses those at the head of the market chances. It would have also been rude not to ask where his money is going for the race, so the man that found the winner of the 1000 Guineas gives us his selection…

Don’t forget that 2 bookies are paying 4 PLACES on the OAKS – Paddies and Bet365 – make sure you take advantage…if you don’t have an account click below and grab that extra place value!

Marvellous – Best Price 3/1

Could not have been more impressive when thrashing a high-class field in the Irish 1000 Guineas. The form of that race is strong and the way the Aidan O’Brien filly hit the line suggests a step up in trip will be right up her street. Major player.

Taghroodha – Best Price 7/2

Slightly eased the market since the rise of Marvellous but it was hard not to be taken with the way this Sea The Stars filly romped clear in the Pretty Polly. Stamina is all-but guaranteed but form of her latest win has been let down on a couple of occasions.

Tarfasha – Best Price 7/1

Travelled and quickened like a dream when winning a good Group Three at Naas with plenty in hand. Trainer Dermot Weld has got his wish as the rain seems to have stayed away. Her turn of foot makes her a big danger.

Ihtimal – Best Price 9/1

Finished third when well placed in a slowly run 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and ran well but got out battled in a tight finish. Step into the unknown in terms of stamina and others make more appeal.

Madame Chiang – Best Price 12/1

Won both her starts on soft ground showing a steely attitude, especially when coming clear in the Musidora Stakes. David Simcock’s filly played up in the stalls at York and with the ground going against her too, it’s hard to see her troubling the market principles.

Marsh Daisy – Best Price 12/1

Improved to stylishly romp clear in the Height Of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood, a race that Snow Fairy won before landing the Oaks in 2010. Will need to step up again but her trainer is having a blinding season and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this lovely moving filly battling out the finish.

Recommended Bet:

Marvellous fully justifies her status at the head of the market as she was in a different parish when winning in Ireland. Joseph O’Brien is on board this time though and the ground will also be a tad quicker than in Ireland. That’s enough to swerve.

Taghrooda, Ihtimal and Madame Chiang all look short enough in the betting while Tarfasha makes plenty of appeal as she’ll be suited to Epsom’s speedy decent.

The bet for me is Marsh Daisy at 12/1 each-way. She won doing handstands at Goodwood and her form of all her wins is stacking up very nicely. Get on with 3pts each-way.
