Our NAP for Day One at Cheltenham

The time for talking is over: it’s now time for action.

The Cheltenham Festival is here yet again and it’s bulging with betting opportunities, especially on Day One, which is without question the best day of racing of the season.

This year is no different as we have the Supreme, Champion Hurdle, Arkle Chase, Mares Hurdle, Four Miler and two fiendishly tricky handicaps. If you come out in front after a day like this, then fair play to you.

So, what is the best bet of the day on Day One? One horse that is going to provide the core of my punting strategy. His name is Altior.

Only joking – I wouldn’t do that to you. One thing I would say is Paddy Power are going 6/1 on Altior for new customers. Looks a great offer – get that price here →

You clicked on this link not for a 1/4 shot but for a bet that will try and convince you that you should get involved.

The bet we’re putting up does come in the Racing Post Arkle Chase at 2:05 but we’re plumping for something in the without Altior market, which you will be able to find on the extra markets of the chosen race.

We really like the look of FOREST BIHAN each-way in this market, who can be backed around the 5/1-6/1 mark.

(T&C Apply)” ]

The basis of the bet is based around the second and third favourites Charbel and Royal Caviar being prominent racers.

They’ll look to get Altior beat by going hell for leather early on, but it’s only going to enhance Altior’s chances as he’s a strong stayer at the trip.

Front runners have a terrible record in this race and not only will the duo they set it up for the hot-pot they’ll hand the advantage to horses that will be hunted round and ridden with a late surge in mind.

One of those will be Forest Bihan, who is very unexposed over fences for Brian Ellison and ran a monster race to chase down Cloudy Dream last time out after thumping the third last. He’s got a great attitude and Aidan Coleman will ride him with plenty of confidence.

Remember, this bet is in the without Altior market, which means wherever Altior finishes it basically doesn’t count in terms of our bet. For example, if Altior wins and Forest Bihan finishes second, we’ll get paid out as a winner.

If Altior wins and Forest Bihan finishes third or fourth then the each-way part of the bet will come in. The way the race is run should suit his style, and we’ll be surprised if he’s not flying home late in the day to finish in the frame.
