Monday’s Racing Tips: 8/1 Black Schnapps to crackle and pop at Windsor

Fresh from an Aintree meeting that he won’t forget in a hurry, tipster Lewis Jones is bright eyed and bushy tailed this miserable Monday morning and goes in search of some each-way value on the flat at Windsor…

Although the weather suggests otherwise this morning, Monday meetings at Windsor are a god send for weekday punters. The standard of racing is usually very tasty for a midweek fixture and when the sun shines down in Berkshire, there are few better places to be than Windsor racecourse with a glass of something tasty in your hand.

Today’s action should bring in plenty of market action and my eyes have been drawn to the chances of Black Schnapps in the 3:40, which is a mile handicap for three-year-olds.

The hard hitting Richard Hannon stable are saddling an intriguing runner in this courtesy of Tree Of Grace, who will be ridden by Frankie Detorri, but apart from that runner the race does look a little short on progressive types. This opens up the 11-runner race nicely in the each-way market and the selection has strong claims of making the frame while also possessing the profile on his handicap debut to test the mettle of the Hannon market leader.

William Muir’s charge has shaped with significant promise on his three starts to date, finishing second on debut on heavy ground at Salisbury before stepping on that effort to win a maiden over a mile on the all-weather at Lingfield.

Black Schnapps (7/1) with BetVictor at Windsor 3.40 (2pts EW)

His next start looks an awful one on paper but dig a little deeper and he can be forgiven for being beaten 33 lengths in a hot novice race over seven furlongs. He was absolutely smashed up that day by subsequent UAE Derby winner Toast Of New York, who now has his eyes on Classic glory at Epsom in the Derby.

Dropped back in class off a mark of 79, Black Schnapps has all the hallmarks of being able to run a big race first time out for a trainer that does well with three-year-olds at this time of the season.

The trip looks perfect, the ground should be fine and Martin Dwyer is a reliable man to have in the saddle. Early morning money has come for the selection, too, which is a nice boost. If you shop around you can still get 7/1 in a place and punters are advised to get on with two point each way stakes.
