Lewis Jones is looking to end 2013 in profit and he is putting his faith in the talented hands of AP McCoy at Haydock today with a confident three point selection…..
Significant market support early this morning has only further improved our confidence regarding our main tip Bobcatbilly in the Nick Carter 30th Birthday Novices´ Limited Handicap Chase (we didn’t know the Backstreet Boys were a fan of racing at Haydock?).
Early 9/4 quotes have been snapped up on the Ian Williams trained chaser and we’ll have to grin and bear taking 6/4 for the purposes of our P+L record.
The novice made a very eye catching winning debut of the bigger obstacles at Ludlow earlier this month and showed his consistency when running an impressive third behind Cloudy Joker two weeks later.
Although the handicapper has given him a hike of 3lbs in the handicap that shouldn’t be enough to stop him going close with the champ AP McCoy booked to ride. Williams and McCoy usually team up to good effect (28% strike rate) and a three point win bet is advised on the hot pot.
Meanwhile, what did we learn over the Christmas period regarding the Cheltenham Festival?
Well, first of all, it’s pretty safe to assume that the Champion Hurdle is shaping up to be the race of the entire season on the first day. Both My Tent Or Yours (7/2 Champion Hurdle) and The New One (7/2) showed their credentials in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, with My Tent Or Yours slightly getting the better of the Nigel Twiston-Davies runner but that form has a big chance of being reversed come Cheltenham.
Hurricane Fly also puffed up his shoulders and showed the world that the young pretenders will have to fight hard for him to relinquish his crown. The Willie Mullins superstar landed the Ryanair Hurdle in authoritative style ahead of Jezki and the Fly is now also a 7/2 to win his third major Cheltenham title.
The Gold Cup market was also given a huge shake-up as another defending champion in the form of Bobs Worth showed the world that he is back to his best.
Nicky Henderson’s beast was foot perfect over his fences in the Lexus Chase and then showed terrific stamina over the final three flights to pull clear of First Lieutenant. Come the line, Bobs Worth was pulling further clear which triggered a big move for him in the Gold Cup market. He is now no bigger than 3/1 to defend his title.
Roll on March.
