Joe Tizzard: “I’m expecting a massive run from Fiddlerontheroof”

Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard gives us a lowdown on Team Tizzard’s Saturday runners

It is a busy day for Team Tizzard, who have runners at both Ascot and Wincanton on Saturday, where stable stars Fiddlerontheroof and Lostintranslation, who both hold Grand National entries, look to get on the scoresheet.

Ascot 1.15 – Scarface

A busy day kicks off with this lovely young horse, who’s got better with each run this season.

He travelled well at Exeter last time, and the horse who beat him that day has come out and won again, at Fontwell.

We’re in a nice position with him here, if he wins, then great, if not, he could stay a maiden for next year.

He has Cheltenham entries, and this is where we’ll find out if he is a horse for the big spring festivals. If he did win here, beating 126 and 127 rated horses, then he’d be entitled to go to those meetings.

Wincanton 1.38 – Western Baron

Western Baron needs to sharpen up a bit, he ran very green on his debut at Uttoxeter so we wanted to get a couple more runs into him fairly quickly. Hopefully that way the penny will drop with him, and he’ll get a handicap mark.

Wincanton 2.13 – Kauto The King

Kauto The King wouldn’t want too much more rain, he’s a good ground horse, but this is his best track by a mile, he’s won three times around here. As long as we don’t get the rain he should run another nice race.

Ascot 2.25 – Fiddlerontheroof

We purposely waited until the Grand National weights were out before we ran him again, plus he had a hard enough race in the Ladbrokes Trophy and he’s had plenty of time to get over that.

I think he should be competitive off a mark of 155 and Ascot should suit him. If he runs well here we’ll then have to ask the question, does he go to Cheltenham, or do we wait for Aintree? So there’s a lot riding on this day, but I am expecting him to run a massive race.

Ascot 3.00 – Reserve Tank

Reserve Tank has shown all his best form in the spring, and I do think he’s off a workable mark right now [135].

That said, I wouldn’t be totally happy with him just yet, he’s a horse who does take his time to come into his coat at this time of year, but we can get him right now and put him straight for a strong spring campaign.

Ascot 3.38 – Lostintranslation

Having won well here first time up this season, we’re looking for him to bounce back to that form after a funny run in the King George – a few horses disappointed that day, including this fellow.

He looks in great form at home, we know this trip will suit him, and while it’s a wide open looking Grade One, I don’t think there’s a stand out performer to be scared of.

We’d be hopeful of a big run, and then he’s another we can talk about big spring targets for.

Ascot 4.10 – Atakan

Although Atakan is improving all the time, we’re probably throwing him in the deep end a little bit here.

He did run a nice race at Plumpton last time, and all the owners are here to see him. So while we could find easier options for him, this suits for now and he’ll be a horse who wins plenty in the future.

Ascot 4.45 – Ilovethenightlife

She’s a lovely filly who we bought at Doncaster sales. We’ve taken her for a couple of away days, and she goes nicely.

Ours always improve for a run though, and while she may not be sharp enough to win this first time up, we like her a lot. She’s a well put together mare, and we’ll know more after this so we can make plans for her.

Wincanton 5.05 – Walk Away Now

Our final runner of the day is a nice little horse who’s learned his job on the track and got a mark of 93 as a result, so we’ll see how competitive he is off that.  He’s another who wouldn’t want it very soft so hopefully the rain will stay away.
