Horse Racing Tips: Veteran chaser to bounce back at Wetherby

“Boagrius is unlikely to be put under that same level of pressure in the first half of the race.”

Wetherby 15:05: Boagrius 1pt win 7/1

This is a race where there are plenty of questions for its participants to answer with some having to bounce back from a bad run last time, others being inconsistent and others needing to show that wind ops have worked.

One horse who ran poorly last time was Boagrius but I think there was a valid excuse for that and he has a good opportunity to bounce back under these circumstances.

He returned to action after a 126-day break at Sandown on his last start and he was sent off in chase of Darebin early in the race but he was always working hard to stay in touch with that rival, his jumping suffered a little and he dropped out of contention on the run to 3 out.

He was taken completely out of his comfort zone that day and ran badly as a result. In today’s race, while Halcyon Days may press him up front and Starvoski could do too after holding her up at Warwick didn’t work, Boagrius is unlikely to be put under that same level of pressure in the first half of the race and that can see him run much better as a result.

He’s been dropped 4lb for the Sandown performance and his form prior to that suggests he can be competitive off 111, having chased home subsequent two-time winner Sir Tivo at Bangor on his previous run and run well off a 7lb higher mark at Aintree prior to that.

Boagrius isn’t completely reliable and there’s still a doubt over his finishing effort but I think he has a good chance to bounce back down in class and any 13/2 or bigger appeals.
