Horse Racing Tips: Rhys Williams likes a horse with headgear reapplied at Wolverhampton
Rhys Williams has analysed Monday’s racing and has a sole selection at Wolverhampton.
“I’m hoping that the same tactics will be used back down in trip today with the blinkers reapplied as there’s not much early speed in this race”
Wolverhampton 16:00: Giant Steps 0.5pt win 28/1
Since returning from an absence of over a year in early December, Giant Steps has been well beaten in all three starts but there’s a chance that he could bounce back today with the blinkers that he wore prior to that break back on.
He was placed off 55 over this C&D in August 2020 and ran respectably off marks between 50 and 55 on other occasions that year on the all-weather over seven furlongs and a mile.
He showed very little on his return to action at Newcastle but ran a bit better next time over the same C&D when still in touch until the final furlong and it was clear that the trip stretched his stamina last time at this track over 1m1 1/2 f.
Trainer: Stella Barclay
Jockey: Joanna Mason
Age: 5
Weight: 8st 11lbs

Giant Steps raced very handily that day and I’m hoping that the same tactics will be used back down in trip today with the blinkers reapplied as there’s not much early speed in this race and it could be favourable to race prominently as a result.
There’s clearly a concern that he might just not be as good as he once was and he didn’t look straightforward when racing in blinkers in the past but his price is too big to let him go unbacked given the possibility for a revival. Any 25/1 or bigger appeals.
