Friday’s Racing Tips: Get on Lucinda Russell pair at Musselburgh

Well, 2014 has begun with a bit of a bang for this free tipping service. Two days, two selections and two winners at 7/1 and 3/1, bringing in £26 worth of profit. Beauboreen duly landed the odds in game fashion at Huntingdon yesterday as he ploughed his way through the mud to continue his progression up the handicap marks.

The wet weather is continuing to cause havoc with race meetings around the UK, with Lingfield being abandoned today but racing at Musselburgh does go ahead and we have found two chances that hopefully will prolong our winning run.

They are both trained by Lucinda Russell, who is the trainer on everyone’s lips in the north at the moment after a sublime December, where she racked up over a 20% strike rate.

She is firing nine of her runners at the bullseye today and her best chance of a winner looks to be Vallani, who screams value at 4/1 in the Mackie Motors Brechin Handicap Hurdle at 2:40.

She strikes as a course specialist that always runs above her current rating at this track. If you look back through her record she won off a mark 6lbs higher than today in 2011 and has run two solid races to finish third and fourth in her most recent outings here when the ground wasn’t to her favour.

With the deluge of rain that has fallen up north, the ground will be riding much slower than the official reading of soft and that will a surface she will relish. All three of her wins have come on soft or heavy going and off this current mark it will be very disappointing if she can’t be competitive in a pretty weak race. Get on the selection with a one point win.

For punters that perhaps like playing the smaller prices, Russell’s banker of the day simply has to be Ballycool, who should follow up his recent victory with another success in the Handicap Chase at 1:10.

The selection turned over a new leaf after a break of 50 days following four runs over an identical period of time previously with a brilliant display of jumping at Kelso, where he ran out a richly impressive 19 length winner.

He had shown flashes of ability earlier on his chasing career but never could build on it, under a 6lb penalty for his most recent win, he really should be making light work of his rivals today. Get on with a two point win at 6/4.
