Friday’s Racing Tips: 6/4 Victor Hewgo to hammer rivals at Doncaster

Today has the same feel to it to as Christmas Eve with excitement reaching fever pitch regarding Saturday’s Cheltenham Festival Trials Day. Much of Lewis Jones’ focus is on tomorrow’s racing, where he’ll be tipping three or four horses, but he’s managed to find a hot-pot at Doncaster today that he feels should take all the beating…
Everything looks right for the progressive Victor Hewgo to open his account over fences in the Sky Bet “Free Bet Club” Novices´ Chase run at Doncaster at 2:10.
Keith Reveley’s chaser strikes us as a horse to follow over three miles or more when conditions are on the soft side.
Throughout his career as a National Hunt racehorse the nine-year-old has always run his best races over the staying trips in the mud. In fact, he won both of them.
Firstly, showing a real aptitude for a slog when winning a handicap hurdle off a mark 103 at Uttoxeter before backing that run up with another great effort at Doncaster when he came through some trouble in running to win going away at the line off a mark of 118.
It was always hoped from the people around the horse that he would improve tenfold when switched to the larger fences and the way he ran on his chasing debut at Doncaster certainly gave the impression that he has the ability to win some nice races over three miles.
Running over an extended two miles, which is at least half a mile on the sharp side for a horse of this staying power, Reveley’s charge jumped effortlessly and ran a huge race to finish just a quarter of a length behind David Pipe’s Western Warhorse.
It was a performance that once again suggested that this horse needs a stiff stamina test as he was doing all of his best work at the finish and would have won if the race had been 200 yards further.
The selection also receives a valuable 7lb from his main market rival Up To Something today and in these types of conditions should make that pull at the weights count.
Get on the very generous 6/4 with a four point win stake.
