Friday’s Racing Tip: 9/1 San Telm to reward each-way faith at Sandown

With just four sleeps until the Cheltenham Festival, Lewis Jones is getting his punting juices flowing by backing a 9/1 shot with each-way stakes at Sandown today. In fact, it’s a tasty little card down at Esher and with the sun shining there should be some decent racing on show….

This week has been all about big priced each way success after All Right Now landed us a touch at Southwell on Tuesday to boost us back into profit and it seems fitting with another 9/1 each-way recommendation.

San Telm may not be one of the day’s more obvious selections but he has very good each way claims at Sandown in the Charles Stanley Handicap Hurdle at 3.40.

We’ve seen the selection more over fences over the last year but looking at his record there may be some scope in his current hurdling rating of 123, especially as he drops into a much weaker race than the one he was contending last time out.

Renee Robeson’s nine-year-old caught the eye massively when winning over fences at Fakenham in December, jumping with real confidence and looking in a different league to his rivals. It was shame that he unseated next time out in a better race behind Edmund as it would have been good to mask how well he matched up against a horse of that ability.

Since that mistake, Robeson has decided to switch him to hurdling. He shaped with promise too in a Pertermpts qualifier at Huntingdon on heavy ground.

He was in there pitching with some decent animals until his stamina ran out in the ground as the race entered the business end. It was a very solid effort though to finish third behind two nice types in the form of Dawn Twister and Josies Orders.

That effort looks pretty reasonable in the context of this race and the drop back in trip should also help. Get on his chance with a one point each way stake.

Good luck, comrades.
