Friday Racing Tip: Harry to reach the Top perfectly at Sandown

Lewis Jones blasted back into profit yesterday with two winners from two selections, and he has his eyes on a 3pt win tip at Sandown today…
Keeping horses very much onside that have a the heart of a lion and an incredible will to win is one of our more simple theories when it comes to horse racing, but it don’t half get you a run for your money.
Although many things are against HARRY TOPPER (3pt win) today in the feature Future Stars Chase event at Sandown, this will to win and ability to run all the way to line that was on show when winning the Charlie Hall Chase, makes him the selection despite his drifting odds this morning.
The drying ground is far from ideal for a chaser that looks to relish a slog and the Sandown fences may cause him a few problems, however, he doesn’t know when to give in and up the long, never ending, Sandown run-in, he can see off Paul Nicholls’ charge Rolling Aces at 7/4.
The Nicholls’ runner unsurprisingly has been popular this morning and is now the clear 10/11 as he’ll be more suited to a small runner field.
His jumping his excellent, but we’re far from convinced that he fully stays three miles in his races and this is the chink in his armour that the stamina ridden Harry Topper can exploit.
The six-year-old had progressed very nicely last season, winning twice at Exeter and a valuable novice race at Newbury before falling at Kempton and being brought down in a Punchestown Grade One where he was fancied to go very well.
Trainer Kim Bailey, who knows a good three miler when he sees one, has always raved about the staying power of his charge and the horse got his deserved Graded success at the top level when surging past his rivals in the Charlie Hall on his reappearance, where he wasn’t at his peak.
Many will quibble with the fact he only beat the limited Wayward Prince by a neck but that horse always ups his game in the Charlie Hall.
Plus, there were some pretty good horses seen off in behind, most notably Unioniste and former Gold Cup hero Long Run. The form of that race we feel is better than what Rolling Aces achieved at Down Royal and at the prices the bet has to be gutsy Harry Topper.
It won’t be pretty and may leave his challenge late, but he’ll grind Rolling Aces down.
