Daily Racing Multiple: Razdan and Skonto look ready for 53/1 Wednesday double

Alan Dudman was close to landing an 80/1 double yesterday with a 12.78 winner and an 8.17 second – who traded at 1.4 in running. He did land the each-way part of his multiple however, and he has more of the same for Dundalk…

“Skontonovski was given too much to do with his latest effort, but he’s the sort of horse who needs a bit of cover from his inside draw. He should get that here and he looks ready to go up to 1m once more.”

Back Razdan and Skontovski in a Sportsbook each-way multiple that pays 54.0 using Extra Place Special for Skontonovski (0.5pt)

Regular readers will know about my ideas on Dundalk, and I tend to shy away from the short price favourites. So the 1m4f Maiden is prime to take on Mick Halford’s Elzaamsan, who has two seconds next to his name and can be backed at 10/11. But no thank you.

I prefer the claims of Razdan at 5/1, and while not a massive price, I would be disappointed if he couldn’t hit the first three for another each-way double.

The name also sends shudders down my spine as my school cricket first XI used to have an annual fixture against the Delhi Blues – a touring team from India that had a combination of very good college players and internationals. I got tied in knots when I was 16 years of age by Maninder Singh once, and he had bowled at Graham Gooch in a World Cup Final. But the following year I went out to bat (foolishly those days without a helmet as I thought I was good enough to react), and opening the bowling was Vivek Razdan. A bowler described as fast medium who played two tests for India. He was rapid.

I didn’t last long, not surprising given he claimed five wickets against Pakistan in 1989 and had dismissed Ramiz Raja, Wasim Akram and Abdul Qadir. Hopefully the equine version will be just as quick following the transfer to Christopher Timmons.

He ran well at Dundalk last time over 1m2f behind a potentially good all-weather horse in Irwin. He came from a bit further back than the front two and also met trouble late on. And while he is not a horse to place maximum faith in with a finish, I like the angle of the hood coming out with the tongue tie today.

That also looked a reasonable piece of form in relation to this race.

He ran well at Galway in the summer in a 0-90 handicap over 1m4f, and I feel that could be his best trip, so going up in distance will suit as he does stay. In three runs he has shown he acts at Dundalk and off a break of 117 days can go well.

Unlike me against Vivek.

Cliff horse gets another chance

Including Skontonovski each-way, we also have the Extra Place Special to utilise on the Sportsbook to go four places, and I will give another chance to a horse who has popped up in the column a couple of times.

He finished a decent second over 7f at the track in December behind Prisoner’s Dilemma, but he was a long way behind the same horse last time out in a 0-85.

That was deeper race than what he’ll face today in terms of opposition, and he should be able to win a race from a mark of 71 given the way he travelled at Dundalk to win last October.

Skontonovski was given too much to do with his latest effort, but he’s the sort of horse who needs a bit of cover from his inside draw. He should get that here and he looks ready to go up to 1m once more.

He deserves one final chance down in class.
