Daily Racing Multiple: On a double crusade with a pair of exciting Godolphin runners

Unexposed stayer can land the big prize

Back Bandinelli @ 11/8 in the 14:40 at Kempton

Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: Jack Mitchell
Age: 4
Weight: 9st 5lbs
OR: 95

What a great little horse Skontonovski has been for Ado McGuiness, and he was a winner yesterday in the column with an astonishing drift out to a BSP of 19.6 from 10/1, but the bid for the double was foiled again as Alhaajeb went even bigger out in the betting to 27.0, but was well beaten having travelled well – matched at 2.021/1! That’s four single winners at 12/1, 10/1, 10/1 and 9/1 in a week, but once again no second winner to go with them.

On with a great day’s racing on Saturday.

The debut of Aldous Huxley in the 13:30 at Kempton is one for pedigree buffs as his dam is a half-sister to the Fillies’ Mile winner White Moonstone – who won all four races a juvenile but sadly never got to race at three.

He isn’t on the double list, though, but it could be a good Godolphin day and their progressive stayer Bandinelli can get us off to a good start in the historic Quenn’s Prize Handicap.

Dubawi’s hallmark as a stallion is that his runners get better with time and distance, and Bandinelli very much fits the profile as his career really took off at the back-end of 2021 following the addition of headgear, and minus something else as he was gelded.

He won at Newmarket, and also landed a handicap from the front at Haydock. But one of his better performances came over CD in November when beating Sleeping Lion in a sustained battle to the line.

That was his first attempt at the 2m, and he looked as though he needed every yard as he angled down the centre of the track to beat the 98-rated horse into second. His attitude was good, as when Sleeping Indian got to him, he found extra.

The sectional data was positive too, as he ran 11.92 and 11.75 for two of the three closing furlongs. A new mark of 95 awaits, so too perhaps some new targets.

Mitchell to cap a memorable day with exciting sprinter

Back Royal Crusade @ 5/2 in the 15:55 at Kempton

Trainer: Charlie Appleby
Jockey: Jack Mitchell
Age: 5
Weight: 9st 7lbs
OR: 105

It could be a good afternoon for Jack Mitchell, who has been the beneficiary of the Meydan World Cup card claiming the world’s best riders, and Mitchell is on board both my picks today in the Titian blue livery.

Royal Crusade is the second favourite for the 15:55 and a return to Kempton looks a good move as he’s 1-1 at the track.

He was last seen out in Dubai 71 days ago running well in Listed company over a shorter trip than ideal at 5f, as there wasn’t a lot of pace to race.

Previously he won comfortably over CD showing a one-burst turn of pace. He’s unusual for a Shamardal to be so pacey, but his quick action was lightning fast in that victory – and his best sectional of 11.08 came at the 5f marker. He looks the horse who has one piece of acceleration, and could be even better on the all-weather as you can usually set your clock by the sire’s runners on artificial surfaces.

He was talented, but in-and-out prior to his gelding operation, but he was a Group 3 winner at three, and I like his claims to make it two-out-of-two here from his mark of 105.
