Famous Bridge won and defied a drift yesterday, but our double was denied again as Sauce Of Life was well beaten by Lebowski. I thought he was ridden poorly last time but had no qualms with the ride on Monday as he was given every chance on the pace, perhaps he isn’t as good as I thought he was. Nicky Richards did have a winner in the closing bumper with his unfancied second runner, and an excellent display of jockey skills from young Connor Rabbitt. I knew little about the 10lb claimer, but horses were going off quite hard yesterday in Scotland, so it was a well-judged ride and his first ever winner. He alongside Jack Wildman are a couple of names to follow as they look talented.

Tuesday is a wee bit tricky, but I am happy having an each-way bet on Letter At Dawn in a poor 2m handicap that starts the card. Very early by the way at 11:40.

Mixing metaphors is never a good idea, but I think he could be well handicapped from 54, and while the cat isn’t quite out of the bag, the nose is at least peering out of the carrier.

His two best runs have been over 1m3f, with one at Goodwood in September in a 0-70 – a much better grade than today’s. He was in a weaker race at Yarmouth at the end of the season and plugged on, so I think he’s worth a go over 2m – especially at a track that doesn’t test the stamina as sternly.

He’s unexposed on the all-weather and is a well-related horse too with a couple of decent Jim Bolger fellows in his pedigree. His sire Dawn Approach has a fair record at Lingfield with a win-rate at nearly 17%.

This is also an Extra Place Special race on the Sportsbook.

Morgan’s hurdler should improve after Hexham

I have backed a couple of Laura Morgan horses this season in J’Ai Froid and Socialist Agenda, both were beaten, but I took they the view they were better than what they had shown. It could be that some of the trainer’s runners are needing their first run of the season.

With that in mind, Here We Have It looks an interesting runner in opposing the favourite Calidad.

He made his debut last November in a Carlisle bumper and finished second to Aviewtosea, who looked a strong stayer that day and has since won a novice hurdle over further. The selection travelled very well that afternoon, in fact superbly. He hit 1.011/100 in-running and proved a boon for layers at the basement price.

A hurdling debut followed in December behind Tommy’s Oscar, and that looks a particularly good run now as Anne Hamilton’s horse won a fair race at Kelso and recently bolted up on Betfair weekend at Haydock – landing a valuable hurdle race from 138 by 10L. The selection behind the winner again travelled well – ducking under his BSP.

We didn’t see the horse afterwards, which was a real shame, but he made his return at Hexham recently over 2m4f. He was ponderous at a couple and was never really involved in the race out the back under a very inexperienced rider in Lewis Dobb, so it looked a good run to get his fitness back after a near-year lay-off.

Morgan has had 14 winners with a fair strike-rate this term, and she’s a trainer I rate as an up-and-comer. A drop back down to 2m is a plus and I think his form is better than the fav.
