Cheltenham Tips: Get on 7/2 Boston Bob to fire the big bucks

Layers of Big Buck’s listen up. Eighteen times you will have tried to get the superstar hurdler beaten and 18 times you would have been left out of pocket.

However, today is your day though to recoup some of those losses as the legendary hurdling superstar makes his return in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham after over a year out of the game.

Quite frankly, the Evens on offer for his chances is a bet that bookmakers will gladly lay all day. And one of the biggest rules of punting in my book is try to put the bookie in the most uncomfortable position. Steer clear of Big Buck’s in the big one.

There is absolutely no way to be sure he’s going to return in the same vein and Daryl Jacob declining the ride is very fishy. Meanwhile, who says even a fully fit Big Buck’s would beat the grossly unexposed Boston Bob anyway? Willie Mullins’ star is where all the money should be going this afternoon.

Despite his sketchy jumping record over fences, we’re certain this horse is out of the top draw and in time, starting today, he will finally start to show the world what he’s capable of when everything falls right.

Although he didn’t beat much on his reappearance, the way he sauntered clear and jumped at Punchestown suggests that 2014 may be the year where he finally comes to the party.

Get on his chances with a three point win stake.

Another horse that hasn’t quite fulfilled his potential at the top level is the strapping Harry Topper, who despite carrying a penalty can win the Argento Chase (Registered as The Cotswold Steeple Chase) at a juicy price. This race is seen as a trial for the Gold Cup and the selection looks the type to absolutely relish a gruelling three miles around Cheltenham.

Market principles Houblon Des Obeaux and Rocky Creek ran in a very poor renewal of the Hennessy Gold Cup and the fact they failed to land a significant blow there, makes them very hard to fancy against Harry Topper, who can be forgiven a poor showing at Sandown last time in a race that wasn’t run to suit. One point win stake advised at 13/2.

Those that like a handicap bet should also give serious consideration to the chances of Samingarry in the Timeform Novices´ Handicap Chase. He looks ahead of the assessor and has AP McCoy booked. One point each-way there.
