Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup & Triumph Hurdle Betting Tips & Predictions | Robbie Power

Jockey and BoyleSports racing ambassador Robbie Power reflects on the Dublin Racing Festival & discusses his betting tips for Day Four of the Cheltenham Festival in March.

The Gold Cup and Grand National winning jockey spoke with Leon Blanche this week at Fairyhouse, firstly discussing all the events from the Dublin Racing Festival last weekend, as well as his best race winning tips & each-way value for Day Four of the Cheltenham Festival.

Gold Cup

Robbie believes a successful Cheltenham Gold Cup defence for Minella Indo could be on the cards next month after partnering Henry De Bromhead’s charge in the Irish equivalent last weekend.

The 9-year-old found only one too good at Leopardstown as Conflated saw off a gutsy late challenge from last year’s Gold Cup hero, but jockey Robbie Power noted that the performance from the runner-up was stronger than his run in the same race last year before he landed Cheltenham’s blue riband.

“There’s every reason to be optimistic, he’s won twice and narrowly beaten in the other, we know Cheltenham brings out the best in him!”

He said: “He felt great on the day, he jumped and travelled beautifully the whole way through the race and stayed on strongly to the line, Power told BoyleSports. “It was great to see him put up a performance like that after the disappointment of the King George.

“I think he probably ran a shade better in the race than he did last year before going on to win the Gold Cup, so there’s every reason to be optimistic going back to Cheltenham. He’s been there three times, he’s won twice and was narrowly beaten in the other, so we know Cheltenham brings out the best in the horse.

“Minella Indo, A Plus Tard and Al Boum Photo were the first three home last year and the three of them won’t be far away again. You can throw Galvin into that mix as well, he’s a strong stayer who has won a 3m6f race round Cheltenham, so stamina won’t be an issue.

“Protekorat is the one who is way to short for me, he beat a Native River at Aintree who is half of what he was a few seasons ago and who has since retired. The right horses are at the head of the market and it’s going to be a fascinating race, but the first three home last year are the most likely big players in another cracking Gold Cup.”
