Cheltenham ante-post tip: 6/1 First Lieutenant to thrash Dynaste in Ryanair – if running

Lewis Jones has decided with just one week until the Ryanair Chase, it’s the right time to back this 6/1 shot with the non-runner no-bet guarantee…..

It’s that time again, comrades. The time to add another beauty to our ante post portfolio.

My portfolio at this moment isn’t looking that great to be honest. Boston Bob and West Wizard have gone right off the boil this season but there is light at the end of the tunnel with Harry Topper in the Gold Cup, who we managed to nick 50/1 on (he’s now 25/1) and I really like the 16/1 about Corrin Wood in the RSA Chase.

He’s still my best bet of the Festival at this stage.

I wouldn’t normally advocate getting stuck into a horse in an ante post market with just a week away but in this case I still think there’s some scope in the current price. If my thinking is correct, he’ll go off a lot shorter on the day so it’s best to get involved with this beast now.

One the first things I always try and do when assessing a market is whether I can get the favourite beat. If you can, then it opens up a huge amount of punting possibilities, especially from an each-way perspective as your chosen horse is likely to be trading at a bulky price.

This is certainly the case for the Ryanair Chase, where the support for Dynaste, who is now as short as 7/2, is ludicrous. This horse is an overrated beast and has the finishing kick of an asthmatic snail. He’ll travel well and then find little up the Cheltenham hill.

Plus, David Pipe has a very poor record in top level chases at the Festival, he’s more of a handicap merchant.

First Lieutenant is a Cheltenham horse and it would amaze me if Gigginstown don’t go for this race with the horse, considering the owner sponsors the race and they have Last Instalment in the Gold Cup.

Finishing second behind Cue Card last season is the best piece of form on offer. The 6/1 on offer from BetVictor with the non-runner no-bet guarantee is very tasty indeed, as he’ll be much shorter on the day once the Irish get stuck in.  Get on with a two point win stake.
