April Meeting Day Two Tips

Its the second day of Cheltenham’s April Meeting lets dig out a few winners!

Cheltenham’s card gets under way today at 2:05 so lets dive straight in.

2.05 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle

The opening race is a Mares Listed novice hurdle. There isn’t much between Coillte Lass and Dusky Legend based on their last run together.

Coillte Lass beat Dusky Legend by 4l but there is a 5lb turnaround in the weights today in favour of Dusky Legend. He ran a cracker on his next run when 3rd to Let’s Dance at the festival here.

Is sure to take all the beating today but I’m going to side with DEAUVILLE CRYSTAL as she looks better value at 8/1.

This horse was decent on the flat and caught the eye a few times earlier in the season.

She has come into her own late on in the season and she has won 3 of her last 4 races. She was unlucky in the race when she came 2nd in between.

This horse is clearly on the rise and should go close to winning again today – the step up in trip should be no barrier.

2.40 EBF/Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Chase

Race two the 2:40 is a Mares novice handicap chase where eight runners go to post.

Three of these are out of the weight and that will hinder their chances of winning. Both Magic Money and Plaisir D’amour look too high up the weights to take this so scratch them.

The Paul Nicholls trained Antartica De Thaix has won her last three starts and now reverts to a handicap off top weight.

She has had a few tough runs in succession, can hit the odd fence and has to give away weight to all.

Will be tough for her to continue this win streak but she’ll be be in the mix no doubt.

Briery Belle ran in some top class novices earlier in the season but ran no sort of race last time but that was in the RSA Chase at the festival.

Back in calmer waters here and is a course winner.

At the prices I’d much rather BRIERY BELLE at 9/2 than Antartica De Thaix.

3.15 Catesby Property Group PLC Mares’ Handicap Hurdle

The 3:15 is another mares races and it is a mares handicap hurdle.

On Demand will ensure a true gallop in this race and is one that could hold on for a place at big odds.

She should set it up for the closers though and both Indian Stream and Snow Leopardess have strong claims.

Snow Leopardess was a top class mare in bumpers and has been pretty good over hurdles too – she has gone up 12lb for her last win but is a progressive type.

Indian Stream ran a great race, a career best when a close 4th to Apples Jade, Limini and Vroom Vroom Mag in the Mares Hurdle at the festival.

She previously won nicely at Wetherby. Midnight Tour has 5l to find with that one based on that run but is 10lb better off at the weights today.

I think she may have been flattered by her close proximity then though.

I think Snow Leopardess has more potential than these and I think she could win handy.

SNOW LEOPARDESS looks a good bet in this race at 10/3 * Now a non runner, so going with Indian Stream

3.50 Llewellyn Humphreys Handicap Chase

The 3:50 is an 8 runner handicap chase and Upswing is the favourite but this horse has largely been disappointing this season.

He did win to manage last time out but this looks a much tougher ask, I can’t have him this time out.

Federici the ex Irish horse ran well for a long ways last time but I don’t think he’s well handicapped at the moment.

COOLOGUE may not be in the best of form of late but he is by far the best horse in the race.

He’s starting to look very well handicapped and I can see this one rattling off a few wins when back in form.

Taking a risk that today is the day but he likes it around here and is worth a punt at around 6/1.

4.20 Kingston Stud Supporting The IJF Handicap Hurdle

Race 5 the 4:20 is a 3 mile handicap hurdle which sees 12 runners go to post.

Duke Street, Scotchtown, Mr Clarkson and Two Swallows all look to have good chances in this but I’m going to go for the Neil Mulholland trained SOLOMON GRUNDY.

This horse won with ease two runs back in a similar race and was unlucky last time out in a tougher race.

He’ll love the good ground and looks the safest option and looks a decent proposition at 9/2.
