Aintree Festival Day Two Daily Multiple: Back two handicappers for a Liverpool double

Speech Bubble can take advantage of good-looking mark

Back Speech Bubble @ 5/1 in the 13:45 at Aintree

Trainer: Noel Williams
Jockey: Gavin Sheehan
Age: 7
Weight: 10st 8lbs
OR: 130

The opening 13:45 Handicap Hurdle looks a hot race and while Speech Bubble is towards the head of the betting at 5/1, she’s a mare I have followed this term and her mark of 130 looks quite attractive.

She was on my radar earlier in the season for Lingfield, but she was given far too much to do when finishing second on that occasion. However, she received a better ride for her novice success at Newbury – a race where she showed some of her class and the time was a good one on the slightly rain softened ground.

Her trainer Noel Williams has marked her down as a Black Type mare, and his belief was justified on her latest run with a fine second to subsequent Cheltenham festival winner Love Envoi.

Speech Bubble was still a little keen in that race and that has been evident a few times, but Love Envoi had her ground with it testing, and with Nina The Terrier in third coming out to boost the form with a good effort in Grade 2 company, that looks a nice race to work with translating to handicapping.

She could perhaps do with softer conditions, but she’s improving and she could be well handicapped.

Citizen likes a lively runner

Back Lively Citizen @ 9/1 in the 17:15 at Aintree

Trainer: D. J. Jeffreys
Jockey: Archie Bellamy
Age: 7
Weight: 10st 5lbs
OR: 122

DJ Jeffreys has a very willing horse in Lively Citizen, who has progressed well this season and looks to take on the bigger guns for the Aintree finale.

His Imperial Cup second was a career best behind Surprise Package – who once again displayed the strength of the Irish handicappers, who took the race by 9L and proved to be somewhat well treated!

Lively Citizen gave his all in behind from a low weight, and a rise of just 1lb is more than lenient. He wasn’t so prominently ridden last time, and usual rider Archie Bellamy might decide to utilise the positive tactics again as he has been a fairly keen goer.

Bellamy claims again from a low weight, and as he didn’t make the cut for the County Hurdle, he stands to have another chance chasing a big pot, especially going left-handed.

Some soft in the description will be ideal and he showed his ability to see out a race strongly when winning at Cheltenham during the winter. This is also an Extra Place Special contest to use in an each-way double.
